GOLDEN AWARDS INTRODUCTION The Golden Awards is a significant event in the Malaysian Chinese television industry which rewards excellence in production and performance.
* Debuting in 2010 for the first time, the Golden Awards aims to be the most recognizable and prestigious media event the nation has ever seen.
* There will be three awards categories which are Drama, non-Drama and Viewers Choice. A total of 19 awards will be presented at the event on 25th September 2010.
* Nominees for the Golden Awards will be judged by a panel of professional judges comprising of well known experts and leaders within the Malaysian Chinese entertainment industry. The pre-judging process will be held in Kuala Lumpur in March 2010.
* Winners of the 19 awards will be announced at the Golden Awards 2010 that will be held in Kuala Lumpur on 25th September 2010.
The Golden Awards is open to all local Chinese TV programmes. It is divided into three categories, which are TV Drama, non-Drama and Viewers Choice. A total of 19 awards from these three categories will be presented during the event.
The pre-judging process will be conducted in March 2010, and the results will be tabulated and audited by an independent auditing firm. The Top 10 programmes will be announced via press releases and via online in April 2010. Short-listed finalist programmes, performers and companies will be announced in July 2010 during a press conference and results would also be available online.

In Channel U’s second locally produced drama – Perfect Cut, we found out that in this 13-part drama serial, there will be a few female actresses baring parts of their body for the show. The ever demure Apple Hong had to shed off her goody image and open her legs wide in one of the episodes as she plays a patient undergoing Hymenorrhaphy (Hymen reconstruction surgery) while Thomas Ong gets to see almost everything!
Apple Hong: I want to enlarge my breasts! Apple had to undergo a Hymenorrhaphy surgery in the drama for obvious reason – her future husband expected her to be a virgin. However, Apple is not against the surgery like Constance. “If you have to go for the surgery to gain your future happiness, just do it”, Apple said firmly.
On a lighter note, she actually divulged that she wants to do breast enhancement surgery. “I want to enlarge my cute A cup to an even cuter B or C cup. This allows me to look better when I dress up”, Apple chuckled. She then added, “I wouldn’t dare to do it because I prefer to look natural. I am also rather timid and afraid to go under knife. Having been in the industry for so long, there isn’t any point for me to do it because unnecessary attention will be on me”. (We agree with you Apple, stay natural!)
“However, I will definitely consider Botox if my face becomes CMI (cannot make it) after a few years. Botox is not considered cosmetic surgery to me because I am only being poked by needles and not knives!”, Apple reasoned with a laugh.
Apple also revealed to us that she hasn’t really heard a lot of stories about cosmetic surgery. Those that she has heard of before came from one of our MediaCorp artiste – Quan Yifeng. “I think she is rather open about her undergoing cosmetic surgery”, she whispered.
“It was really hilarious because she once told me that she met this particular cosmetic surgeon who made her look so bad and she had to look for another cosmetic surgeon to save her!”, Apple giggled. “It was as though [Yifeng] experienced almost everything that has to do with cosmetic surgery by herself”.

AWARD-WINNING singer Misha Omar will be coming to town for the Munchy’s Love Concert 2008 at Dataran Batu Pahat, Batu Pahat, on Feb 17 at 8pm.
Misha, from Kota Baru, Kelantan, is known for her good rapport with the audience, lively performances and superb singing style.
Both her albums (Misha and Aksara) have gone platinum. She won the Best Vocal Performance award in Anugerah Juara Lagu for two conservative years, and a Gold award at the 2003 Shanghai Music Festival.
Her hits include Pulangkan, the haunting theme from acclaimed movie Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam, which starred Maya Karin, Bunga-Bunga Cinta, Dedebu Cinta, Halaman Cinta and Ku Seru (from Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam 2, also starring Maya).
Misha has also branched into acting. She appeared in the third of the three Gerak Khas movies directed by Datuk Yusof Haslam. Her most recent film was comedy Main-Main Cinta, in which she starred alongside Sabah singer Adam (Aizam) Mat Saman and Kelantan-born actor-comedian M. Rajoli.
The singer will be sharing the stage with Labuan-based newcomer Karen Kong, who made waves last year when she launched her debut album entirely in Malay, Mulakan. It featured Cinta Hello Kitty and Ku Tak Upaya, both penned by songwriter Asmin Mudin (lyricist of Malaysian Idol Jaclyn Victor’s Gemilang).
Other celebrities who will be appearing in the concert are Apple Hong, Cheryl Samad, Rynn Lin Yu Zhong and Anthony Cheng.
The free two-hour concert is the highlight of a two-day carnival from Feb 16, which will have booths selling all sorts of items.
It is co-organised by Munchy’s Food Industries and Singesen Machineries Trading Sdn Bhd, held in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebrations.

Peel your eyes to the telly for: ‘Aiyoyo’ as the feisty Nancy, complete with curly brown locks and garish outfits; the late MC King in his uncompleted project; and did mousey Fiona get into the 881 fever and morph into a getai sex kitten?!
The bath basin has been in the ‘coffee uncle’ and his wife’s family for years and was also considered a family heirloom. Neglected by their five grown children, they live peacefully in their HDB flat, taking care of their grandson by their youngest daughter Shu Min (Ong Ai Leng). Shu Min tells them to dispose of the bath basin as she’s worried for her son’s safety; thus the couple leaves the basin under their neighbour’s care. While surfing the net one day, their son Jian Hui (Rayson Tan) stumbles across an auction of China goods, one of which is the ‘nine dragon basin’ made during the Qing Dynasty and going at a price of US$800,000.
Jian Hui realizes that the bath basin that belongs to his parents bear a strong resemblance to the ‘nine dragon basin’ and begins to plot with his wife to snare the treasure. Their plot is unwittingly overheard by their good-for-nothing neighbour Zhi Gang (Adam Chen), who also decides to get his hands on the basin…
Lin Bang (Huang Wenyong) co-habits with a former bar girl Nancy (Chen Liping) and her daughter Xiu Zhen (Cai Qi Hui). They have another daughter, Xiu Ming (Fiona Xie).
While Xiu Zhen is smart and capable, praises cannot be made of her personality. Xiu Ming, on the other hand, has a cheerful and sunny disposition and is well-liked by all despite being academically weaker. Enters Dingyi (Kang Chengxi), a rich law undergraduate, and a love triangle ensues between the three.
Will the sibling rivalry ever be resolved? Is the basin truly a long-lost treasure? Who will finally get his/her hands on the basin?

Love Is All Around
The story begins when Zhuang JiaWei and his girlfriend Kaiqi, join a tour group led by tour guide, Fu Xiaoyue. Zhuang JiaWei is a sentimental and romantic young man, who has been dating his girlfriend for 7 years. Fu Xiaoyue is a young lady who is idealistic in love, and has a boyfriend she has been seeing for more than a year. She had wanted to take the chance to give her boyfriend a surprise during this tour assignment, because he is also traveling for work. Thus, Xiaoyue hides herself in her boyfriend’s hotel room, planning to give him a pleasant surprise. However, to her shock, he walks into the room with his arm around his new girlfriend. Xiaoyue is caught by surprise and does not know what to do. Her first instinct is to flee the scene without being discovered. The only way for her to get away is to climb out of the balcony like a fugitive. Just as she is about to escape, she is discovered by Zhuang JiaWei in the adjoining hotel room! Alerted by the commotion, Xiaoyue’s boyfriend walks out onto the balcony and sees her caught in an awkward position between two balconies with her face flushed with embarrassment. Soon after the incident, he takes the opportunity to suggest that they break up. A heart-broken Xiaoyue vents her frustration on Zhuang JiaWei, which also results in Kaiqi breaking up with the latter. Therefore, Xiaoyue and JiaWei become enemies. On their way back from the tour, they happen to be on a tour bus with criminals on board. As their bus gets hijacked and speeds dangerously along the highways, Xiaoyue has an epiphany as she sees her life flash before her eyes. In the moment of danger, she realises that she has never experienced true romance and her life may end any minute before she does. Her heart is filled with regret and her eyes well up with tears. The sentimental JiaWei is moved by her tears and impulsively promises that he will marry her if they survive this ordeal! Their fellow passengers on board overhear this and are delighted to be witnesses for this display of romance amidst grave danger. The criminals are subdued in the end. Suddenly, JiaWei and Xiaoyue are thrown into the limelight and become the centre of the media’s attention. Headlines like “Romance blooms on hijacked bus” are popping up everywhere. The public who loves soap-drama is lapping up news of their progress like a hungry fan club. The two young strangers are stuck on a rollercoaster ride they cannot seem to get off... JiaWei and Xiaoyue get married after dating for 7 days. They share a happy marriage but are somehow unable to say, “I love you” to each other! Perhaps their time together was too short. Perhaps they are both too jaded to believe that true romance exists in this world. Gradually, they start to discover that they do not understand each other well at all, especially when Xiaoyue encounters her hard-to-please mother-in-law, Fengjiao. She also finds out that there are two sisters-in-law, Xiao’ai and Meimei who are nitpickers. When Fengjiao’s husband passed away many years ago, she raised the family on her own with her immense willpower and never-say-die spirit. She took over her husband’s eyeglasses wholesale business and earned the respect of industry players. She is also well loved by her family members. In recent years, she has handed the business down to her children and retired behind the scenes. When Xiaoyue marries JiaWei and joins the family, war between the elder womenfolk and her is declared. JiaWei is put in an awkward position between all of them. To make matters worse, JiaWei’s ex-girlfriend Kaiqi joins in the chaos to try to separate him and Xiaoyue. Even though Xiaoyue manages to expose Kaiqi’s schemes several times, Kaiqi refuses to give up the fight. With no other choice, Kaiqi resorts to announcing that she is pregnant with JiaWei’s child! Fengjiao sees her son deeply troubled, and begs Xiaoyue to leave JiaWei because she cannot bear to see him tormented anymore. Xiaoyue is extremely upset, but decides to divorce JiaWei. The fairytale romance comes to an end... After their divorce, JiaWei is unable to forget Xiaoyue. However, he is bound by his responsibility to Kaiqi. When Kaiqi finds out about this, she is furious with jealousy. She is reminded of the dark secret she hides within herself... It turns out that Kaiqi’s mother has been warded in the mental institution for a very long time. Many years ago, Kaiqi’s father had an affair and her heart-broken mother killed him after becoming mentally unstable. Kaiqi was just a little girl then, and was severely traumatised to witness everything. She has suppressed this horrible secret within herself since then. When Kaiqi finds out that JiaWei is meeting up with Xiaoyue behind her back, she starts to go crazy with fury... and slowly follows in her mother’s footsteps. Kaiqi holds Xiaoyue hostage to coerce JiaWei into staying by her side. As JiaWei is too anxious to save Xiaoyue, he is severely injured by Kaiqi as a result! Before JiaWei is sent to the hospital, he manages to say, “I love you” to Xiaoyue. JiaWei slips into a coma and Xiaoyue stays by his side constantly. She prays that he will wake up one day... They have come a long way and have been through so much hardship to discover their true love for each other. Will the prince and his princess be together at last? Does the fairytale still exist? The eldest daughter in the Zhuang family, Meimei is a typical career woman. She is beautiful, intelligent, self-confident and a feminist as well. She works very hard for her career but has not done very well on the relationship front. Every day, she secretly prays for her prince charming to appear. Meimei had a first love when she was much younger, Fang Ziyun. Fang Ziyun has once told Meimei, “Wait for my return” and this has made Meimei waste many years of her youth waiting for him. She ends up waiting 13 years. Meimei has become an outstanding and successful businesswoman today. She is waiting for Ziyun in hope that she can redeem her lost youth, self-respect and love from this man. However, the 30-year-old spinster meets a 33-year-old playboy Fu Xinghan, who is Xiaoyue’s elder brother. Fu Xinghan is an eyeglasses designer. He believes in enjoying life, and has a very active social life. He is humourous, funny, cheerful, and dislikes being restrained or committed. Therefore, he is still a swinging single bachelor. Xinghan joins Meimei’s company. The two of them develop a love-hate relationship at work where they are constantly bickering. Xinghan begins to fall in love with Meimei. However, Meimei’s first love, Fang Ziyun suddenly appears and proposes to her. This has developed into a love triangle, and Meimei is in dilemma of deciding between the two men. The third daughter of the Zhuang family, Zhuang Xiao Ai, is lively, sporty and an extrovert. She is blessed with a glib tongue and everyone loves her. Xiao Ai wishes to be an artiste. She also has many admirers who are trying to court her. She gets to know Xinghan from a chance encounter and develops a crush on him. When she finds out that her elder sister Meimei is in love with Xinghan, the two sisters fall out over this. Xiao Ai has a male friend (Zhang Yufan) with whom she is very close to. Their friendship is so strong that they’re like sisters. Later on, they both discover that they’ve developed feelings for each other and they thus progress to become lovers.

Q:As celebrities, you run very tight and hectic schedules. with all the last nights and stressful deadlines, aren't you afraid of that it'll make you age faster? What is your beauty regime or secret?
A:Yes, a little, that's why i always try to take care of myself whenever and wherever possible. However I think my career is not to be blamed entirely, it will happen to everyone who has pressure. And nowadays pressure comes from every aspect of life! As for my beauty regime, I always try to maintain a happy state of mind and smile more. I believe that helps a lot! I also always stick to my skin care routine, and take care of my face well!
Q:How do you keep fit?Do you stick to a daily routine?
A:I try to have meals at regular hours whenever possible. Supper is a big no-no. If i feel that i have indulged myself with too much food in a given day, i will restrain my food in take and exercise more for the next few days. I also believe breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and i always try to have a healthy one, usually with milk, crereal, muesli bars and yogurt. I try to avoid oil breakfasts like mee-siam, fried noodles and so on.
Q:Is keeping fit a pleasure or a pain for you?
A:Definitely a pleasure! Yoga and gym are my best friends who help me to keep fit. I do feel some "pain" when practicing yoga, especially when trying some postures. But I can say I enjoy those kinds of "pain"!
Q:What is your greatest health scare?
A: I am always very health conscious. This is because I was born with a weak kidney and developed some minor complications when i was a kid. It took lots of times and medicine to cure me, and i kind of have developed a fear of medicine. That's why i try to take good care of myself and stay healthy as much as possible.
Q:As a celebrity, your face and voice are your prized assets. What do you do to preserve them?
A:Routine skin care , especially for my face is really really important. Occasionally , I will treat myself to bird's nest. But most of the time i will just drink honey lemon, which is a cheap and easy way to care for the skin and the throat. I also try not to drink hard liquor, and always try to stay away from smoky places to avoid secondhand cigarette smoke! Abd i sleep as much as possible!
Q:Ever get intimidated by age?
A:So far i am not. Not yet maybe. Because i am still satisfied with my "beauty preservation" results. Hey, people i meet have almost always mistaken my age! And i am totally young at heart!
Q:What dose the word beauty mean to you?
A: I think it must be associated with inner beauty. In fact i believe that inner beauty is more important. One must have a kind heart and have substance, otherwise people will not be impressed no matter how good-looking one is.
Q:Any sinful vices or indulgences?
A:Chocolate...lots of chocolate...non-stop chocolate!
Q:What diet is a must and why?
A:Fruits, especially apples!
Q:What does living well mean to you?
A:Having the financial means for day-to-day living, and good holidays occasionally. Most importantly, living well means being able to to experience every little thing in life together with my loved one, and no age peacefully and graciously together!

Apple's Magical Journey
Apple was nominated for the new comers award with her pretty looks; she was often saying to be Su Qi and Song Hui Qiao look-alike. Because of this, she achieves many chances to act in different variety show. In year 2001, she was given a chance to join either TCS or Channel U and she decided to lay her faith in Channel U. A little-known fact is that Apple was already a host for a Chinese infotainment programme while pursuing her degree in Malaysia Institute of Arts (majoring in TV production). Adding to her hosting experiences are programmes like (都市男女) and (食不可挡) with famous TV chef Chen Hong in Taiwan. Of the various dramas, Apple has also been involved in many regional co-productions acting alongside international artistes like Ouyang Zhen Hua (欧阳震华), Nick Cheung (张家辉), Anita Yuen (袁咏仪), Qin Han (秦汉), Mi Xue (米雪) and Ng Meng Tat (吴孟达). Apple strikes one as a very affable girl and is a recognized face everywhere she goes. This versatile actress hopes to be able to take on movie roles in the future and we wait with bated breath for her silver screen debut.
Apple was also nominated for Best New Comer in MediaCorp Singapore during her first year in the industry and Voted as Singapore TOP20 Sexiest Girl by FHM Magazine for three consecutive years. She also appeared in the big-screen as a leading cast in Jack Neo’s movie – One More Chance (2005). After six-years in show-business, she has established her career as a multi-talented and recognizable face in this region.
As a truly versatile multi-talented artist, Apple’s next venture is to release her debut music EP in Singapore and Msia. The EP concept consisting of 8-tracks with various musical genres including acoustic easy-listening, piano-pop tunes and also fusion of Chinese and Irish-styled songs. Apple’s vocal experience included winning awards in singing competition as a soprano during her high school years; she has a soothing voice that genuinely projects her image as sweet and lovable artists, reaching out to wide-audiences.
This EP is penned by some of the most prominent award winning musicians from Singapore and Malaysia (taken more than 18-months to produce), Song arrangements by Mac Chew, Lee Nai Kong, Jamie Wilson (arranged for Sandy Lam, Z-Chen, Emil Chou, A-Do, Richie Ren, 光良 etc), Songwriters Lee Chee Cheng and Fred Chong (written for A-Do, Stefanie Sun, Miriam Yeung, Elva, Z-Chen, Fish Leong,品冠, Kelly Chen etc), Visual and artistic director (including design of album cover) to be helmed by renowned Singapore stylist guru David Gan (Zhang Zi Yi’s stylist) and Bernard Ooi.
